The Ashtanga Yoga system synchronizes movement to breath through a dynamic series of postures. This yoga practice utilizes a combination of breath control, physical postures and concentration to promote deep internal healing. In this 3-part workshop, Tami will focus on the basic fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga with a deeper look into the postures of the half primary series. During the workshops, the postures of the Ashtanga sequence will be discussed and practiced. Please come prepared to move, as each workshop will end with a light flow.
The first Sunday will cover a brief history of Ashtanga Yoga, the elements of the practice; bandhas, breath, drishti & vinyasa, concluding with a break down of sun salutations A & B.
The second Sunday we will delve into the standing series, incorporating transitions and technique to discover how to move from the roots of our feet upward, in order to achieve balance.
We will conclude the final Sunday with asana technique and variations of the seated postures up to navasana; ending with backbends and the closing sequence.

“Ashtanga may be utilized as a method of keeping physically fit or it may be traversed as a pathway to explore the subtle realms of spirituality. Whatever purpose we choose, there is only one method to reap its benefits: Practice!” – David Swenson
